Dick’s video background actually began
when as an outgrowth of his need to visualize topics in Astronomy
and Earth Science teaching at Brockton High School in SE Massachusetts,
he took his lifelong love of audio construction and combined
it with slides. This medium of Slide – Tape was put to
good use when Dick worked in and became the Planetarium Director
at Brockton High School.
He joined with a photographer and they started large screen,
large audience Slide Tape presentations. |

In 1985, Dick was asked to help in a new Broadcast TV venture
called “Fishing New England” on NECN. Soon after,
Dick became chief videographer and editor for the show and the
renamed “New England Rod & Reel”.
For 12 years, Dick traveled all over New England and North
America videotaping fishing shows. Each year, a new show or a
rerun was sent to NECN or SportsChannel New England every week.
He also was responsible for making many of the commercials and
placing 12 of them within the show each week
Dick has 225 copyrighted Broadcast TV shows on his resume.
He has also participated in several documentaries. In 1997,
Dick went to China with 30 other Astronomers, Teachers and Planetarium
Directors. Dick spent the summer before the October trip seeking
and found enough money to bring along another videographer. This
17 day odyssey took Dick first to California and the movie editing
empire of John Luca’s Skywalker Ranch. There he toured
several studios used in the editing of Indiana Jones, Star Wars
and the movie “The Titanic” being edited at that
time. |

Upon entering China, the tour took Dick from Beijing (Tiananmen
Square, Forbidden City, The Great Wall, University of Beijing)
to Xian where the founder of China, Emperor Chin is believed
to buried. There they viewed the enormous tomb of terracotta
warriors. The next stop was Shanghai and the riverfront district
known as the Bund. There, the old Chinese way of life was mixed
in with modern 90 story high rise buildings.
Upon returning to the United States, the tour stopped in San
Francisco, where he recorded a tour of Alcatraz in the harbor.
Dick took home over 30 hours of footage and created a 12 part
documentary on China and the tour. This program aired on South
Shore Cable networks and became part of a curriculum use in World
History classes in many schools. |

In 1997, Dick was asked to participate in a documentary
by the 39th Commander of the USS Constitution. At the time, this
oldest ship in the US Navy, was being sought by many cities to
sail as lead ship in a parade of TALL SHIPS. It was the belief
by many, that the USS Constitution was not seaworthy. So the
documentary was created about it’s history and construction.
When “Old Ironsides” was sailing for the first time
under its own sails with no push from support boats, almost a
million people witnessed this event.
Dick was stationed on the USS Ramage, a high tech destroyer
in the Navy. From here, he was able to record the Constitution
under sail, along with all the Navy boats and thousands of recreational
boats parked along the path to witness history.
The documentary had an audience of one. The US Navy watched
the documentary and declared that the USS Constitution was not
seaworthy to sail down the coast to major cities. Hence, the
ship will be forever berthed in Boston Harbor. |

Dick was asked to help out on a South Shore Cable TV program
to record and edit the Dedication of the John F Kennedy Library
in Boston. On day one, Dick and the host of the show was given
a tour of the library, escorted by Michael Kennedy
and JFK’s most trusted friend and aide Ken O’Donnell.
The following day, President Clinton and his entourage with
all the major TV markets assembled outside of the library. There,
all the political dignitaries of Massachusetts were there to
greet the President along with Jackie, John Jr. and Caroline
Kennedy. This became a two part documentary.
Dick has recorded just about every event that can take place
that people may want. His experience allows him to get in and
take the shot, bring the footage into the studio and tell a story
that makes sense.
If you are interested in any of the recorded programs mentioned
above, please feel free to contact him. |
